‘I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you. This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid hands on you. For God has not given us the spirit of fear, timidity, but of power, love and self-discipline.’ 2 Timothy 1: 5-7.
I read this passage this morning and was overcome with an understanding that could only have come from the Spirit of God. It was a fresh insight that had never hit me before despite my familiarity with this passage – even to the point of singing the lyrics of “God has not given us a spirit of fear…” since I was 5 years old.
